Like the rest of the island, Compostela sits mostly on clay and limestone. Compostela’s mountains connect to Cebu City and Balamban on Cebu’s western seaboard, while on the coastline the town is bounded by Danao City and Liloan. Its terrain is similar to the other towns – relatively flat on the coastal plains and becomes rolling and hilly away from the main circumferential road, which is situated near the narrow coastline. Its landscape provides a natural guide for development and use. The plains host the commercial and government areas, considered the town’s urban center. The valleys and rolling hills, meanwhile, provide homes to the agricultural sector mainly feeding on corn, vegetables and fruits. The rugged mountain areas, for their part, are not that productive because of poor soil condition and deforestation. There aren’t also that many feeder roads that service the farthest or outermost end of Compostela’s mountains so the use of land in these areas is fairly limited.
